Roof Risk Assessments

One of the main causes of death and injuries at work each year is falling from height, particularly through or from roofs. Accidents often occur due to workers falling through fragile roofing materials such as roof lights and asbestos cement roofing sheets or from unprotected edges.

HSE statistics show 50 workers died due to a fall from height in Great Britain in 2023-2024, accounting for 36% of 138 worker deaths over the year and remaining the leading cause of fatal injury to workers. Prosecutions indicate that a lack of adequate planning, including assessing the risks involved, resulted in an insufficiency in the precautions, supervision and training needed to help prevent these incidents occurring.

Roof Risk Assessments from Metro SRM

Roof areas are often neglected, but as with any area of the workplace, they must be risk assessed.

Our highly trained team are able to undertake a risk assessment of your roof space to identify and recommend any actions required to improve overall safety for those that need to access or work in this area. This typically includes:

  • Compliance with Working at Height Regulations 2005
  • Assessment of the access and egress areas
  • Safety Signage
  • Safe working areas
  • Emergency procedures
  • Pest issues

Reporting

Following the roof risk assessment, you will be provided with a full report detailing any issues identified together with recommendations on the actions needed
