Metro Safety is currently seeking a skilled Carpenter to join their dynamic team for fire door remedial projects. As a Carpenter specialising in fire door remedials, candidates will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and compliance of buildings by installing, repairing, and maintaining fire doors to the highest standards.

Responsibilities
  • Install and Repair Fire Doors: Ensure fire doors meet regulatory standards and manufacturer specifications. Have previously worked to either FIRAS or BMTRADA accreditation an advantage.
  • Fire Door & Compartmentation: Identify deficiencies in fire doors and compartmentation and recommend appropriate remedial actions.
  • Effective Teamwork : Work with project managers and team members to complete projects on time.

Fire Alarm Tester - Birmingham and surrounding areas Salary £25,000 - £30,000 dependant on experience

Job Purpose 

Metro Safety are the preferred providers of fire, health and safety and building services to many of the UK's leading managing agents and property owners, as well as local authorities and major retailers. This role’s purpose is to provide weekly/monthly testing a various sites and ensure any issues on site are reported. 
 
We have a full-time vacancy for a Tester in Birmingham and surrounding areas including Wolverhampton, Walsall, Redditch, Solihull, Leicester, Northampton, Luton. 
 
Alternatively, we are offering 2 part-time positions to cover the above areas. Part time positions are offered on a self-employed basis. Self-employed people are responsible for paying their own National Insurance contributions and Tax. 
 

Key Objectives

As a Tester, you will conduct a variety of tests, including fire alarm tests, health & safety inspections, and sprinkler tests. All training and equipment will be provided.

 
Duties and Responsibilities  
  • Complete weekly/monthly testing of fire alarms, sprinklers, tap temperatures on site, and vacant premises inspections dependant on the sites requirements. 
  • Report any issues on site via the FSL app. 
 
Reporting Line
 
This position reports to Testing and Inspections Manager, under the Director for Asset Services.

Senior Fire Safety Advisor - Northern England, Sheffield & surrounding area. £50,000 - £55,000 depending on experience

Job Purpose

To undertake Fire Risk Assessments on a variety of different properties in Northern England.  The ability to technically validate reports as per BAFE requirements is also required.
 
To act as the technical lead on specific customer contracts, assignments, and appropriate policy development. Facilitate, deliver services, and where possible enhance the efficient operation of the Safety Consultancy & Training provided by Metro SRM. Will need to work closely with their line Manager, the Operational Support Team, and Business Development
 
Provide assistance in the recruitment, training, monitoring and support of appropriately qualified and competent Contractors.  Assist with the training and mentoring of other employed Consultants, in relation to Safety Consultancy and Risk Management work undertaken by them.

  • To personally deliver Safety Consultancy and Risk Assessment/Management services to customers.
  • Consultants usually spend between 10 – 12 days in the field each month undertaking site visits.  Whilst a good proportion of the detail required in the final report can be captured on site, there will be a significant amount of home write up.
  • Ensure all reports are written to a high standard within 5 working days of any site visit.
  • Take a full active role in our Seniors Quality Steering Group.

Fire Safety Testing & Inspections Auditor

Nationwide – Remote field based opportunity (Ideallly located to the west of London) 

Department Background

Metro Safety’s customers are property managers responsible for meeting the statutory and regulatory compliance requirements for fire and health and safety routines at their properties.

The operations team ensure that Metro’s customers receive an excellent level of compliance support via fire, health and safety tests and inspections, nationwide. Our customers depend on us for consistent standards of compliance support via regular, scheduled service visits for tests and inspections, and for provision of timely and accurate issue status reports.

The operations department carries out over 2,500 tests (and inspections) per week, nationwide. These service visits are carried out by local sub-contractors (or testers) on regular routes. We test fire alarms, sprinklers and emergency lighting systems. A small percentage of our work involves health and safety inspections. 

Job Purpose

The Fire Safety Testing and Inspections Auditor is responsible for providing on site induction training for our network of testers, nationwide. You will be responsible for data capture and procedural documentation at new sites we acquire. This is a field-based role, with occasional overnight travel. This role is expected to establish and maintain high standards and professionalism.

You are expected to be smartly attired and represent the interests of Metro Safety and our customers at all times. Full training will be provided for this role. This role is only suitable for those with a technical aptitude. Although this is a technical type of role, we do not require you to have technical or safety accreditations. Metro has a proud record for developing its staff working in this role.   

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Attend customer buildings (mainly commercial) to establish procedures for testing safety systems (e.g. fire alarms, emergency lights, smoke control systems, sprinklers or H&S inspections).
  • Data gathering of systems assets for input into Metro’s database within agreed timelines.
  • Timely and accurate fault and issue reporting.
  • Provide high quality customer care at all times.
  • Identify and report on risks and hazards.
  • Liaise with property managers, site personnel in order to complete tasks successfully 
  • Train and mentor contractors, nationwide – overnight travel may be necessary.
  • Support with contractor recruitment, including selection interviews.
  • Handle incoming technical calls and queries from field contractors and staff.

We have several part-time vacancies for personnel to conduct fire alarm tests, sprinkler tests, and inspections in the following locations:

Reading

We have a part-time vacancy for fire alarm, sprinkler tests, and inspections in Reading. Applicants must be available for fixed hours each week. Earnings of £100 per week inclusive of all expenses, based on an hourly rate of £12 per hour and mileage paid at £0.45 per mile. This is route that takes approximately 6 hours per week, completed within 1 day, with an early start required. The first hour will be paid at double time to reflect this.

Salisbury

We have a part-time vacancy for fire alarm, sprinkler tests, and inspections in Salisbury & Andover. Applicants must be available for fixed hours each week but there is flexibility in choosing your own schedule and working days. Earnings of £150 per week inclusive of all expenses, based on an hourly rate of £12 per hour and mileage paid at £0.45 per mile and one early start, with the first hour paid at double time. This is a route that takes approximately 8 hours per week, currently completed within 1 day but depending on the applicant’s availability there is potential to split this route into two half days.

Leeds

We have a part-time vacancy for fire alarm and health and safety inspections in Leeds. Applicants must be available for fixed hours each week. Earnings of £40 per week inclusive of all expenses, based on an hourly rate of £12 per hour and mileage paid at £0.45 per mile. This is route that takes approximately 2.5 hours per week, completed within 1 day.

Glasgow

We have a part-time vacancy for fire alarm, sprinkler tests, and inspections in Glasgow. Applicants must be available for fixed hours each week. Earnings of £100 per week inclusive of all expenses, based on an hourly rate of £12 per hour and mileage paid at £0.45 per mile. This is route that takes approximately 5 hours per week, completed within 1 day, with an early start required. The first hour will be paid at double time to reflect this.

East Kilbride

We have a part-time vacancy for a sprinkler test in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire. Earnings of £25 per test inclusive of all expenses. This test takes approximately 1 hour and must be completed before 9am.

For all the above positions experience is not essential as full training will be provided.

  • This is on-site work carried out on foot and may include climbing stairs.
